"If you have ever known anyone with a food allergy, you understand the importance of keeping that person safe.  It is a true life and death situation.  The goal of this program is to educate our membership about food allergies and to promote awareness in our organization and our communities.  My Rainbow sisters embraced my family when we learned of my son Wyatt's food allergy, helping to keep him safe and
tree-nut free whenever he is with us.  I am honored to be a part of the development of this program and take pride in knowing that Rainbow Girls are making a difference - in my life, in the lives of our members who have since been diagnosed with food allergies, and in the lives of those who share our world!"

Be a PAL Merit Badge Program

Protect A Life

Mississippi Rainbow is proud to partner with the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network to present the Be a PAL Special Merit Badge Program.  This program is designed to educate our members and our communities on the importance of understanding food allergies, and what to do if you or someone you know has food allergies or a food allergic reaction.  The Be A PAL program promotes the better understanding of food allergies by defining what a food allergy is, how to read labels for an allergen-free diet, and how to cook allergen-free foods.  Of the fourteen requirements defined by this program, seven of these must be met for a Rainbow Girl to receive the Be a PAL Special Merit Badge.  A Rainbow Girl can only be awarded this Merit Badge once in her lifetime.

Scientists estimate that 12 million Americans have food allergies.  That's 1 in 25 people.  The Be a PAL program for Mississippi Rainbow is designed to promote the awareness of food allergies until a cure can be found!

he is allergic to tree nuts and was the inspiration for this project!
